Best Wings in Toronto
By admin, November 8, 2011 11:22 amBe it Friday night, Saturday night, Game Night or I’m Tired of Work Night, nothing beats spending an evening with friends at a bar with a few good points and a great platter of wings. Chicken in finger-food sizes slathered in mouthwatering, finger-licking sauces. Great alone or even better with a good dipping sauce (I’m odd, I tend to like blue cheese personally). And no, those celery and carrot sticks on the side are not just for garnish. But where are some of the better Toronto restaurants to hit up to find the best wings in the city?
What sets a good wing joint apart from the rest is variety! It’s very common to find a bar or pub that offers wing selections in buffalo, honey garlic or mild/medium/hot sauces, that’s pretty standard (and believe me, nothing wrong with a tried and true favourite) but wings in a sauce? Caribbean jerk? Peppercorn brandy? It may just be the flavour variety that’ll draw in a nightly crowd from near and far.
Wing Shop 366 in Toronto’s Bloor and Spadina area is known for their great selection of burgers at amazingly affordable prices. The quality of their food has been the toast of area locals for a very long time with good reason. But, they’re called Wing Shop for a reason. With a variety of 29 styles of wings to choose from, you’ll want to stop by time and time again (or bring a crowd) to sample them all. Their delicious wings come with choices of either stick-to-your-fingers sauces or dry rubs – try Fantasy Honey Pineapple, Plum or Lemon Pepper for a regular sauce or Parmesan, Roasted Garlic Pepper or Tex Mex for a dry rub. Since Wing Shop 366 is now part of the Just-Eat family, why not invite your buddies over, order a great wing selection online, and enjoy game night from the comfort of your own living room?
For another great wing option, check out B.B. Ques at Spadina and Harbord. They’re another local favourite with many returning and satisfied customers who rave about not only their great wing selection but for their other offerings of ribs, burgers and hot dogs. Their wing selections come in a variety of styles and sauces. The honey barbecue and Cajun mustard are good choices to start with. B.B. Ques is also part of the Just-Eat family so ordering from their great menu is only a few clicks away.
The Fox and the Fiddle chain of pubs has been a personal favourite of mine for a few years now. It’s a top location for many locals to come for a pint of beer, their extensive menu that goes far beyond your average pub fare (the Thai stir fry and the Indian curry over rice are amazing). The large screen is perfect for watching Sunday football, the Leafs game or the next UFC fight (and if you are attending for game night, be sure to get there early to find a good seat!). But what draws people back for more are their great wing selections on special after 10 pm. Their signature buffalo butter is a local favourite but my personal top choice is the peppercorn brandy although the pineapple curry and ancho chipotle BBQ sound different enough to make it enticing!
With these and more great wing selections to choose from (and the opportunity to order online for a number of them), you can indulge in a great platter of wings any night of the week. Enjoy!
